Who doesn’t like ice cream?
My oldest daughter is turning 15 this month and one thing she requested from her dear old dad was an ice cream scoop. You know, the ones that you turn on the lathe.
I couldn’t have been more happy to please with this fun project!
I bought the stainless steel scoop from Woodcraft.
I had in mind to turn a solid piece of one wood type but then the thought of a checker board pattern would be fun AND I could use walnut for chocolate and maple for vanilla! Oh, this was going to be good!
As you can see, it turned out just fine. (ha ha, get it? TURNED out just fine… lathe… turned)
Ok, enough of trying to be funny. On the the project.
Black walnut and maple laminated together for the handle, turned on the lathe. I epoxied the ferrule and scoop on to the handle and I sprayed a finish on from a can. Laquer… I think. Maybe I should have read the can.
Thanks for looking!
More details on the project found on my personal blog. Link is in my signature, should you be interested.
