A couple of small boxes made from some mystery plywood with either a walnut or mahogany veneer. Lids are solid red oak. Bottom is half inch baltic birch plywood. Box joints done with an INCRA I-BOX Jig. 6×9 x 3 inch out side measurements, not counting the lid.

Dye stained with general finishes water based dye, empire red. Followed by Zinsser clear shellac with transtint red mahogany dye added. And deft gloss brushing lacquer as the final finish coat. Shellac and lacquer applied with an hvlp spray gun.

Nice job. Could you change one of the pics to show the inside of the lid? Just curious. ;)

Hey Steve,
For some reason I didn’t take a picture of the bottom of the lid. The lid is ¾ inch thick red oak. The bottom of the lid has a ¼ inch deep rabbet, on all 4 sides just wide enough for a snug fit. After I do the rabbet on the table saw. I then do the 45 degree bevel also on the table saw. After I sneak up on the bevel on one side, I then just turn it around to do the other side. I then repeat the same method on the long edge. The top handle is just separate piece of red oak glued on.

Thanks TD, that helps me visualize it. My learning curve is steep but fun.

Simple design yet they look stunning. Like the joints and the finish. Great job!
