It’s finished!! Project No. 124 (V.2-3a) and I’m halfway through the to-do list (for today). Just finished installing two side cabinets and book shelf unit built around a trundle bed she picked up from somewhere (looks like IKEA) into the wife’s craft room. The cabinets are cabinet grade plywood carcass construction using rabbet and dado with glue and screw construction. The panel doors were made from Poplar using tongue mortise/tenon joinery. The inset drawers were machine blind dovetailed using 1/2” birch ply with a Poplar face board. The plywood edges were covered with iron on birch veneer.
The bookcase structure is likewise constructed with plywood and the permanent shelves and dividers dadoed, glued and screwed. Other shelves are floating on pins. Again, the ply edges were covered with birch iron-on veneer tape.
To hide the unsightly gap between the ceiling and the top of the bookcase, I added a 12’ Poplar facia which was coped into the existing crown molding.
Thanks fer look’in in. I’m off on another adventure (just accepted a commission from the grand daughter to design and build a vanity) and am looking forward to retirement in March.
