Early this summer I took a break from the cedar chest I had just started. There are 3 ladies from 3 branches of my wifes office that are walking in the big 3 day walk-a-thon coming up soon. They were doing everything they could to help the ladies raise money for the walk. During their brainstorming one of them remembered that I like to make things. Since I had already made several quilt racks, that is what they wanted. I made 3, one for each of the ladies to auction off at a buck a ticket. They are simple white pine, plugged holes. I picked up the roses at Michaels craftstore. They also came up with the idea of selling the golf tee game. I made those out of southern yellow pine scraps from my adirondack chairs. I had my wife pick up a bag of tees from the golf shop. She grabbed breast cancer pink tees with an odd shape but it makes them unique. I made 3 dozen of these and they sold like hot cakes for 5 bucks a piece.
Most of what I had was leftover scraps, stain and poly. We only spent about $30 and rasied between $400 and $500. I was honored to be able to help the Cancer Society. My own family has been affected many times. Everyone has lost someone to cancer or knows a cancer survivor.
Don’t forget to support the Cancer Society. It’s a very worthy cause.

Charity work is always satisfying. I love the feeling I get when I can use one of my skills to help others. It’s a far different feeling than whipping put the checkbook.
Nice job, and good on ya’!
