I needed a cart/cabinet for my new drill press, so I modified the plans from ShopNotes # 97.
The primary differences are that I made the cabinet shorter to accommodate the height of the drill press, and I put it on 4” casters so that I could move it around easier in my garage.
The side panels are 1/2” MDF that I painted and the top is 3/4” ply on top of 3/4” MDF with pine edging.
Another mod that I did to this was that the carriage bolts that hold the top to the cabinet are sandwiched in between the ply and the MDF by countersinking holes into the MDF. I did this so that in case I ever wanted to make this cabinet/cart part of a larger piece, I could remove the top.
The most difficult part of the project was cutting the 45 degree corner posts and the corner blocks (which are not visible but you can see them in the plans I linked to).
I added two drawers on 20” full extension sliders. This gives me plenty of room to store my drill and router bits and small jigs.
I think I will be making one or two more of these really sturdy and attractive cart/cabinets for my shop.
