A Simple Gavel

This is a gavel my son turned for a homeschool project. It is simply a pine turning for the head and another piece for the handle, press fit and glued together. The finish is a polyurethane.

A very fine gavel, indeed!!!

I will soon be turning a gavel myself, for a gift.

Nice use of the dust mask, while sanding….
However, I noticed that a face shield or safety glasses were NOT employed, during the turning!!!
Gotta teach those “safe work practices” early, so they become second nature.

Good to see father & son enjoying shop time together….
Even if it is just part of the curriculum!!! ;^)
