A friend asked me to build him a floor lamp. This is my design prototype. It is White Oak and Black Walnut with a stainless rod in the center for the cord. Mortise & tenon joinery throughout. The shade is mica with copper accents. The whole is ammonia fumed and finished with three coats of poly. Pictures don’t do it justice. It’s a little taller than I like and working with silicon caulk on the shade was a bad “application” experience, but overall, I like it, it turned out well, and, as always…I know I will do better on the next one. Guess that’s why I have a house full of prototypes!

It’s beautiful, probably a bit taller than I’d want as well. The shade is really nice, I like the shape and the colors.

Nice job Schroeder. That would look nice next to my recliner.

Oh no….my list of things I want to build is growing much faster than I can build them.
Nice job. Where did you get the mica? It would look great in a table version on the Thorsen side table. Which I also won’t get to build anytime soon…:)

Did you have to clean the silicon off the glass because your bead was a little to healthy and it squeezed out? Just be thankful it wasn’t a whole kitchen…someone should of warned me! Good Job.

LOL Dennis. Over in the rec.woodworking newsgroup they use the acronym DAMHIKT (don’t ask me how I know this).

Very nice adaptation of the shorter lamps. I have been asked about doing taller lamps, and hadn’t really figured out a style yet. Nice workmanship! Love the use of copper.

Thanks all!
Tree Farmer – I ordered the Mica from Schlabaugh & Son (online supplier for Wood Mag projects)
Dennis – yep!, that was it exactly!
It was a fun project, and the first time I have used copper & other mediums. I can see where this could get addictive!

I’m planning on making a table/floor lamp combo based on the same design. For the floor lamp behind a Morris chair, what height to you recommend?
