Memorial Flag Case for my Dad

Hi all, this is a memorial flag case I built for my dad to give to my mom for Christmas. I first got the idea while visiting her back in early October and found it in a draw wrapped in plastic. So not happy about that, I set out to find a proper home for it. After looking online at mass produced cases, I decided to try to build one myself. So I got out my old table saw, built a table for it, put a few ideas together and came up with this. My Dad kept a log of all the ports he visited and my wife suggested I build a draw for it underneath the flag. It turned out better than I could ever have expected.

This was nicely done and a great memorial to your father and gift to your mother. I’m sure that she must have been well pleased.

Excellent job! I like the choice of buttons and hardware to give a little more interest.

Very nicely done—that really did turn out quite well!

You did a service to your dad. He’d be proud. Thank you for honoring him. I sure wish I’d kept a log of my 31 years. A BM2 was part of the “real” hands-on Navy back then.

Thanks to you all for your comments, very much appreciated. This is my first true woodworking project and looking forward to many more. Dad loved woodworking, hope he’s smiling.
