This mantel was a special project. We were asked to rip all sides of a barn beam clean. This would remove all of the hand hewed original work of the beam, as well as the patina. No problem!

Then we chamfered all corners so the corners weren’t crisp.

After all cutting and sanding, we stained the beam charcoal grey and clear coated with gloss urethane.

The final product was mounted and white stone was installed around the beam. The look is contemporary.

This turned out well,it’s kind of a change to have people not want the old hand hewed patina and still use barn wood.
