Christmas 2013 for grandson. Toy box, toys, and building block bonanza. Rather than a lid that hinges and could bonk the wee one on the head I made a the inside that pulls out like a big drawer. The drawer has ball bearing fully extending drawer slides and to support the weight I used ball bearings under the front. it rolls out very easily and smoothly. A 2 year old can open the drawer. The project is made of solid birch that I cut from my property as all the wood I use. It was finished with special walnut varathane stain and sprayed with varathane diamond coat floor finish. I made a simple box for the building blocks which my grandson bonked my son on the head when he was just falling asleep on the couch. He was not impressed with me. Such is life.
I side note on the name. When I moved here in 1970 and started teaching, the natives would ask “Who’s OWN is that” Well this is OWEN’S OWN.
Any comments are appreciated.

Nice job Brian! Looks like a great box/drawer that will see years of use and appreciation! Thanks for sharing.

Very neat job!

I do wish I had your reasonable lumber costs!

Even In the Portland OR area; lumber is crazy priced!
