Picture Frames for Christmas Gifts

Wood magazine had a Holiday plans giveaway. The plans for these frames were part of it, so I decided to make a few. Very easy to make in an afternoon. I used some nice figured maple and walnut. The openings are drilled out on the drill press with 3” and 2-1/2” hole saws and rabbeted on the back. The walnut frame is cut separately and glued up aroung the maple. The only changes I made, were to use a chamfer instead of a cove on the walnut frame and around the openings. I just liked the look better than the cove. The finish is three coats of satin spray lacquer.

Very nice design. I like how they stand upright, and the size for a desktop is just right. Nice wood combos as well.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Diggerjacks – Sorry, I didn’t get any pics of the backs. The backs are just some 1/16” hardboard that sits in a recess that’s formed when the walnut part is attacthed around the center part. A screw in each corner holds it in place.

They’re really beautiful, like the wood combo and how they stand. Great gifts indeed and great job!

Have your say...
