SO…....... for those of you reading this that co-habitat with cats, you know they LOVE to jump into cardboard boxes. I have NO idea why, but they looooooooove cardboard boxes – they just do!

We always seem to have a couple of boxes lying around from recent Amazon deliveries just for the cats – we have three of them, by the way – all calico’s.

I wanted a way to make them look a touch classier, so this is what I came up with.

I took some reclaimed pine scavenged from a recent friend’s garage rehab and imitated an old-fashioned beer crate. I hand-cut a stencil using the logo from our local beer, “Natty Boh” and sprayed the logo onto both sides. A bit of stain and a few coats of spray shellac and there you have it!

The nails are just there for show – and the nail heads cover up the air brads.

The hardest part of the entire build was cutting out all the pieces from the stencil!

Oh yeah – then I lined the box with cardboard – can’t forget the real purpose!

Overall dimensions are 18×13 and 11 inches deep.

Now I will pause so I can hear the laughter of both the folks that don’t have cats as well as those that do. :-)

One of our critters moved in as soon as I put the box on the floor – guess this is hers now.

Cheers!

-bob

Good idea and build…we care for 29 cats (some in a enclosed area..it’s warm here all the time) and other strays we catch, fix and release. The enclosed cats do love cardboard boxes around here as well, but want the flaps included so they can play hide and seek, and of course chew on it. I have built a large play area for the outdoor cats to play in.

Nice, but I’m seeing a design flaw. :)
My cat was scratching her neck on the corner of an open box, so I splurged and bought her a DELUXE scratching/rubbing post. The post remains unused, but she gave two-paws-up to the box it came in. My in-depth research has shown that unprotected corners are the only way to go—less is more.
Beautiful cat!

Good stuff Bob! Not only does my cat love boxes, but she loves rubbing her face on the corners of boxes or any somewhat sharp object… weirdos!

We have had three cats and they all loved boxes and the grocery bags except for the one that adopted us about a year ago … boxes and bags mean nothing to him.

I wonder if he would go for one like you built. It looks sturdy enough … he is a large cat.

Regardless if he liked it or not, I like it!

our society is in a down word spiral ,what happen to helping the sick, the poor or our next door neighbor instead of dressing up our dogs to go to anothers dog’s birthday party

The above is a quote I read somewhere recently.
You may be adding to the “downward spiral” of our society with an extra fancy box like that. I know my cats like to hide and sleep in the same. Those crazy animals have some of us wrapped around thier tails…..............

A fine idea! Much nicer looking than the half eaten boxes lying around my house.

Have your say...
