Dovetailed box

This is another dovetailed box made with poplar and red mahogany stain. The cover is a plywood center with sapele veneer. Finished with shellac and water base polyurethane, then 3 coats of paste wax. One of the photos shows the light color of the poplar before staining. Last photo is a similar box I made using the same wood and finish.

Gorgeous! I’ve always thought poplar was an underrated wood- it sure is when it’s finished this well!

Added this to my Fav just because of the finish on poplar. I live in Utah and unless you want to work in pine, wood costs. North is pine forests, and south is desert… Poplar is within reach for me for some of my starting projects and this proves you can make it look good. Good job.
