Lady liberty was carved in a piece of pine from an old shelf. I added color using my wife’s craft paints.

Another great carving. I was wondering how many hours are into making this piece

I did not keep track of all the time I spent, but the carving of my father took about 22 hours or so. I timed that one. Lady Liberty was actually a harder carving to do because of the wood I chose. The piece of pine was from a shelf in a classroom at the high school I teach at. I made it for the teacher who was teaching near the spot where the shelf was located. Thusly the wood returned to the same area where it originally served as a utilitarian shelf. That piece of wood fought me all the way to the end. She took much more time, but was worth the effort. The teacher gave me some yummy Christmas candy and hung Lady Librty in her room.
