This is a small cabinet that I made for a customer who had a slandered stove installed where a wider one had once been. This cabinet is only 5 3/4” wide. The customer had asked others to do this before she found me and every one told her they would only be able to put a filler strip in the space. The reason for this is that if you built a stander face frame for this cabinet there would only be 2 ¾ space to get inside of it making it useless (she wanted to put cookie sheets in hear). To overcome this I set the small cabinet that I built back ¾” and hinged the door off the frame next to it. My face frame was ¾” x ¾” simply to cap the plywood from the box. I was able to use such a small frame because the hinging was addressed as I mentioned previously. The stain match on this one came out almost perfect making it look like it had always been there. The customer loved everything but the price tag and that is why that is all worked out on the front end.

Like you say, it looks like it’s meant to be there! Very cute, and I wish I had a drawer like that for cutting boards and cookie sheets.

Agreed. You’ve got me looking around my kitchen for unused space :)

Great match on the finish. I must agree that in the kitchen, every bit of space is needed.

I’ve run into this a number of times. I’ve never seen it remedied better than this. The smaller framing will be more than enough and the cabinet will be useful and looks super. She’ll forget the price tag….someday. I’d rather apologize for the price than for the workmanship.

The price really wasn’t bad either, it just seems high to her because the cabinet is 5 3/4”. I think she was thinking it would be like $150. The small counter top cost half of that for material alone.
