Built this from the Popular Woodworking plans. I chose to use vertical grain for the front panel. I have no idea if this was a good idea, but time will tell. I also cut dadoes for the bottom of the kindling box and reduced the thickness of the kindling box front and back. The back is set in rabbets. I used red oak for the whole thing; the lumber yard was having a sale which made the oak as cheap as the poplar I went to buy. The back is some re-purposed wainscoting that I planed down.

It’s almost too nice to use to store firewood in! I can’ see out your window and it looks like you need that wood to stay cozy.
