Project Information
If you look at my previous post to this project http://lumberjocks.com/projects/93048 I talk about this "identical" build. Identical except that this is walnut and the other was oak and this one is smaller. Plans from http://plansnow.com/dn1158.html and this is built to the plan specifications. I worked on part construction for both at the same time and then assembled and finished them in order. Solid 5/4 walnut for the frame and legs. Walnut ply for the panels. Cast iron hardware. All parts sanded to 150 then the grain was raised and sanded back lightly by hand to 180. Color with General Finishes dark brown dye. Using dye was a first for me and I can say I will use it a lot more in the future. The top coat is high gloss spray lacquer done at a local shop.
This was made for Julie, a PA I work with in the ER. She gave me the best compliment a woodworker could hear: "It's so much more that I expected." I am happy for her and pleased for me. My hope is that some day, her three boys will argue over who gets it as an heirloom!
