Jaida was 11 when she completed this project in December of 2012.

Planing the walnut.

Gluing up the top.

How many of you sit on your work bench to glue up?

We bought a toy piano on line and dissembled it and she cut away everything but the keyboard.

She then made a template of the shape to create a frame to bend the shape around.

The wood was steamed and bent to shape.

The first time we tried to bend a board ½ inch and failed.

More about that.

She then re-sawed 1/8 inch strips. She then bent them one at a time.

Then after they dried she glued them and re-clamped them to dry.

She fashioned the legs after the one at our church and attached them with dowels.

She turned the top support poll on the lath.

I installing the hinge.

It was a long night.

She has been working with me in the shop since she was 7 or 8. The band saw is her favorite tool.

It was featured on the America workshop in May 2013.

It also won third place in the Project Showcase at the Indianapolis woodworking show.

Every Dad’s dream comes true for you – having the kids enjoy the workshop as much as you do :-). Congratulations young lady on a beautiful project. Your woodworking future looks bright, go for it.

I thought this amazing project looked familiar. I remember seeing it on the Woodworking shows website and thought “I hope my kids will enjoy woodworking time with daddy”. Kudos to you two!

I got a big surprise when I opened the mail the other day. This is the advertisement for the Indianapolis The Woodworking Shows and it has a picture of Jaida piano and Jalen’s chair on the front.
