I was lucky enough to come across two big slabs of Monterey Cypress which lived it’s life out in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I build a dining table that is 9’6” by 4”. The trestle base is made from bay laurel.

That was lucky! Great table. Is it for a customer or going in your dining room?

Thank you! I wish It was going in my dining room. It already has a home in a gorgeous house in Orinda, CA

What a beautiful table!

Is “Monterey Cypress” different from the Bald Cypress we have in the South?

Beautiful job. The slabs are gorgeous, and the proportions, and slight curvatures of the trestle base seem just right. Nice work.

Thank you! gfadvm I would assume they are different. In Northern California we have Monterey and Mendocino Cypress and the are very visually different. Mendocino’s branches seem to reach further out where as Monterey’s grow taller. Is Bald Cypress a swamp tree?

Bald cypress will grow in the water or on top of a big dry hill! In the water it produces “knees” and it does not produce these when growing on dry land. Bald cypress has numerous small green balls on it and needle like leaves.
