I was at a thresher reunion and saw them cut an old maple log with a steam powered saw mill. I noticed that it was a very old rotten log or so I thought. After getting closer I could see that it was a spalted maple tree with some very nice pieces. I was able to make a donation to the fund raising cause and got some very nice lumber. There is a lot of waste but still some very nice pieces. This is the first project I made from it and I think it turned out not to shabby.

Nice use of some remarkable wood. The front flutes are a nice detail.

Yes, very nice piece. Great find on the spalted maple. I’d love to come across some, seems hard to find.
