One of my first hand-tool projects was a Christopher Schwarz-designed sawbench. After all, it’s hard to make anything if a simple sawcut is a challenge! The bench on the left is a shaving horse (a Roy Underhil “bodger’s bench” to be exact. I originally built the shaving horse as a way to debark posts for rustic fencing, but then I discovered how useful a drawknife could be….

Thanks, Greg! My two projects for 2014 are a Roubo workbench and a reclaimed oak dining table and bench. If I get ambitious, I might tackle Roy Underhill’s treadle lathe….

My wife calls it “working on my PhD” (Projects Half Done)!
