This is a portable art box with a tilting easel that I made for my daughter as a Christmas present. Designed to carry a 5” X 8” sketchbook and bin full of drawing supplies, it sits on a lap or table. Made of locally sawn hard maple and dowel construction, with a solid drawing board and frame and panel bottom. The top pivots on a pin hinge and can be set at various angles with the exterior knob which locks a modified hinge support mounted inside the box. The end boards are sculpted with hand tooled edges, left with burnished tool marks. The handle is leather that I took a crack at sewing myself, and the attachment pins are Canadian pennies that have been domed and attached to screws with silver solder, then finished with oxidized patina.
