Each year, I am tasked with building a new set for the local Santa & Mrs Claus at the area’s biggest Christmas light display. This year was their first year inside of a real building (actually a storage building). They wanted it to look like Santa’s Workshop, and I thought that Santa would need shelves to hold and display all of the toys that he’s made during the year! The shelves actually ended up holding Santa’s toys from when he was a youngster, and they were a huge hit with the families that came out to see Santa.

Because space inside the storage building was at a premium, my wife came up with the brilliant idea to utilize the space between each stud. The shelves have notches cut out of the back for each stud so that you have 7” of shelf depth while adding only 3.5” to the thickness of the wall.

While the shelves were meant to be temporary, Santa & Mrs Claus have now purchased the workshop from the people who made the building, and now the shelves aren’t going anywhere!

Pretty cool. This will provide joy for years to come! Great idea your wife had.
