Big maple bowl on new lathe

Got a new lathe for Christmas ( Nova 1624 ) and here is my first big bowl. Spalled maple 14-1/2” diameter and 7” tall. Lacquer finish. Mama bear already claimed this one! Enjoy, back to the lathe..

That’s a beautiful piece. How did you keep it from splitting? I turned a smaller spalted blank into a bowl and it split in half almost. I’ve not had much luck yet with spalted wood.

It does have a small crack that I stabilized with CA glue. Still holding together.

Gorgeous bowl! The grains are stunning, surely a keeper.
