This is the first project that I designed and built in my own shop. It was inspired from another table I found online. I didn’t like the weight of that table so I made this one of of 1 1/2 inch African Mahogany.
The finish is a General Finishes gel stain although I don’t recall the color. Since this was my first time working with Mahogany I learned the hard way that Mahogany is prone to blotchiness. The second project which is the leaning bookshelf I posted earlier was finished using shellac followed by gel stain. As you can see the finish looks much better.
I really like this design and plan on making one or two more out of a great piece of mahogany that I recently acquired.
