This was to be a prototype for some boxes I plan to make for the grandkids but it came out too well to just leave sitting around. So I finished it up and will give it to my daughter for her birthday – she is into scrapbooking and it will be a good place to keep her pens, etc. away from my twin 6-year old grandsons.
1/4” poplar body and bottom; 3/8” top. Finger/Box Joints are 1/8”, cut on the table saw. Finished with MinWax Cherry over a wash coat of 1# shellac, three coats of wipe-on gloss poly and one coat of wipe-on satin poly.

Great little pencil/pen box. I bet your daughter is thrilled. Thanks for sharing.

You know, I think I like this box better than the other one you posted at the same time. This one looks more inviting to pick up and touch.
It would be great to be able to do so!

It’s funny how you build something with one purpose in mind but it morphs into something else. Very nice: I really like the joints.

A very nice pencil box for your daughter. Children like sliding lids.
