I made this for my father-in-law for Christmas. My wife told me what he wanted and I designed it from there. I made a jig for the router table and cut the insert with that. I didn’t know it needed to have the drain hole and reservoir until it was too late. That’s why there is a noticeable defect that I had to fix. I plan on making more of this design with slight modifications and less defects…

The idea and workmanship are excellent. I don’t think I’d like to use this for tenderizing meat, however. Bacteria can be trapped inside the wood, making for a very unappetizing meal. To each their own, but I wanted to be sure you understood the possible safety concerns.
