Christmas present for my wife.

The wood is bamboo. It originally was a Pampered Chef platter which we have had for several years and never used it. My wife was going to sell it at a yard sale and I grabbed it for future use.

I recently acquired a scroll saw as a gift. After doing several smaller projects, I started working on this one. I took several images found online and combined several. Then I took those images and had them scaled down to the size I needed and printed them out. I sprayed the paper with adhesive and applied to the bamboo and started cutting. That was the smoothest wood I have cut, nothing like redwood or cedar. The cut areas were very clean and only needed a little bit of sanding to smooth it out. Danish oil was brushed on all the cut areas. I wanted to route out the back and place a piece of 1/4” plywood in the back, but I don’t have a router. Instead, I cut out a piece of galvanized sheet metal (something I had on hand) sanded one side with 600 grit, sprayed with gloss black, and applied a little epoxy around the edges to attach to the back.

Pictures don’t do justice to what this looks like in person.

Very nice … I love it! Great way to repurpose an unused platter.

Very attractive, nicely crafted.
