Walnut and Maple dresser valet I made as a Christmas present. The is the second box I’ve made, so it has a few flaws. The small feet are walnut, the box is maple, the splines are walnut, the lid is walnut and maple, the handle is a small piece of walnut I picked up off the floor. The spline jig is something I thought up to mount in my cross-cut sled. I made a few mods to the sled so spline jig wouldn’t move around. The finish is gloss poly, sanded down with wet/dry 600 grit paper. I used a shooting board and donkey’s ear to tune the miters.

Very nice. Particularly like the wood contrast, different sized splines, and the contrasting feet.

Dan, nice work. You get extra credit for style points: contrasting feet, varied spline size, shaped edged on lid, nice wood contrasts, dividers on the inside, and 5 part top. I like that you including the jig you made and did not dwelling on the mistakes you made.

I am sure this gift will be appreciated. Keep boxing and keep posting.
