A friend of mine wanted this tv cabinet made like her husband made the counters in the kitchen. Used 3/4 plywood covered with 1/4” underlayment. So its basically made with 1 and 1/4 in ply. About 50in high by 38in wide. She wanted the ends for holding books of dvds. Minwax aged oak stain then poly. Only thing bought was the underlayment and stain and poly…and a gallon of glue. About $100 spent on it since i already had the 3/4 in ply. If i was to build it again using the same method (which i would advise against) i would hollow out the 3/4 ply to cut down on the weight, as is it weighs over 100lbs. She is very happy with it though and its sturdy enough her young daughter wont be knocking it over climbing on it, lol. As big as it is, it is sitting between two big windows and doesnt look oversized for the room its in.
