These are a set of horn loudspeakers I made based on the Danley Synergy horn concept. Each speaker has 4 8” woofers, 4 3” midranges, and 1 1” compression tweeter.

The coverage angle is 60×60….

The cleanest, most detailed, dynamic speakers I’ve ever heard.

Learned more about compound angles and geometry than I ever thought possible….

Neat! Is the outer box sealed or vented? I like the concept of coupling speaker(s) to the air in the room.

I am a sucker for the Karlson design and just added a closed circuit 1/4” phone jack to a Proton clock radio (no longer used as a radio) so I could connect an external speaker. I placed it in my shop yesterday and connected an 8” Karlson, the difference was amazing and I had to turn down the volume a bit.

Have always wanted to build my own speakers, but my understanding of electrics has always stopped me. A good set of speakers makes a huge difference. They will give you much pleasure, after all what would the world be like without music!

Coils, go ahead and give it a try the electrics aren’t all that difficult. In the day we strived for that flat response but frankly unless you’re just into classical music it’s not so important. Most music is mixed and re-mixed so as to bear little resemblance to a live performance. Even low cost speakers in a nice enclosure can sound quite nice, and look great as well. Most have been quite impressed with the sound of my Karlsons even with economical Lafayette three-way speakers in them.

I’m late to the party, but very cool Scott! I have a Danley DTS-10 sub and that company makes some serious speakers!

Have your say...
