First off, the picture doesn’t show my phone sitting in it….cuz i’m taking the picture with my phone.
I live about 10 miles outside of town and i have no wired options for internet. However i do have great verizon 4g coverage, but my shed is steel. The shed is split in half, the back half is my shop, which is fully isolated with sheet rock walls and i have no windows in there. The front half has two windows and is not isolated. I work in IT and it goes without saying i like to tinker with electronics. My phone is an android device and i have an operating system on it that allows me to turn my phone into a wifi hot spot, and i’m still under a plan with unlimited data. I found that if i left my phone next to the window i could get great wifi in my shop for my laptop, mostly for music and Lumberjocks.
At first i was just threw a couple nails into the window frame to hold the phone, but i would often have issues of the service dropping down to 3g or my cats knocking it off the ledge. I then built this quick little shelf to hold it up. I can lay my phone in there and have it plugged in to power at the same time. There is no way the cats can knock it out and my signal strength is amazing!
I built this earlier this summer, but figured it was still worth a share.
