Jewelry Chest

For our 5th wedding anniversary, I gave my wife the plans to this chest and told her that I would make it for her. Well, a year and a half later, I am finally finished :) The woods are walnut (a gift from a friend) and birdseye maple. This was a very challenging project, as it was my first real furniture piece, and I had to fix many major mistakes along the way. I also decided to stray from the plans on many features like the inlay on the top, the sliding trays in the top drawer, the drawer fronts, and the handcut dovetails. All flaws aside, I am pretty happy with how it turned out, and my wife is thrilled to finally have the chest finished.

That’s a pretty fantastic piece. Love the top and all the moving parts. Brilliantly done.

Beautifully crafted, Andy! Whodathunk, making a hand plane was practice for building a jewelry box! Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful. The wood for the drawer fronts is exceptional. Nice work.

Have your say...
