I needed a gift for my sister and her family and decided she could use a bench for outdoor seating. I recently did some work on my cedar deck and had some of the old 4 by 4 railing posts and rail parts. When planed, these were beautiful after 12 years out in the elements. This was my first mortise and tenon project. I thought it went well for my first, although I know the cedar was really easy to work with on my mortiser. It is about 55” long as that was as much as I could fit in my clamps. Ready to do more M&T but need to work on tenon technique, perhaps a jig. The new dado stack I got for Christmas May help too.

Very nice, looks almost nice enough to just keep it inside!

I told my sister I made it as an outdoor bench and she said it was too nice to keep outside. Thanks for the compliment.

That’s one beautiful and solid bench. Like the joinery and cedar. Great work!

Thanks guys. I posted it on Facebook and ive had almost 70 people like the bench. Ive posted many of my projects on there and this is the biggest reponse ive had. It surprised me because it wasnt the best picture and i only spent about 6 hours building it.
