This was based on a cigar humidor, but I changed it to fit the needs of my visually impaired sister. She requested something to keep smaller keepsakes in that would also be easy for her to use and she could be lightly rough with as she has to see with her hands. :)

The full box is made out of cedar from rough saw lumber that was machined down, resaw was done to get the top, bottom and false bottom pieces on a bandsaw to 1/4 in, then matched up for grain, rabbit corners for extra stability and then trim done in oak.

Very happy with this piece as cedar is such a light soft wood it was challenging each step to not put any nicks, scratches or otherwise mar up a board that would have to be remade.

Still will be adding a chain to stop the top from opening past the tipping point and felt bumpers. But those are small things when you get to see her feel the smoothness and admire the ease of how it all works.

A belated Welcome to LJ.
Very nice project. Curious as to the actual size of the box.
