This is a Bulge End Grain Cutting Board that I made my wife for Christmas 2013. It is made from Walnut and Maple with 1/4” maple and walnut end grain dowels (plugs). Made the plugs from cut offs with my tapering plug cutter. The first picture is of the finished board on Christmas morning, pictures 2 and 3 prior to finish, 3 and 5 just after putting finish on and picture 6 of the finished board again. It is 16 1/8” square and 1 1/4” thick. It is finished with Salad Bowl finish diluted with mineral spirits 50/50. It is designed after Scott Smith's cutting board. I would like to thank Scott for answering questions in regards to the placement of the dowels. He was a great help.

Like the other cutting board that I made for her, she say’s she will not cut on it but rather prop it up in the kitchen to look at…..

It was fun to build.

Sweet one Max.

That design is so weird. You have to pull away from it to make it distort. Then move in again and there is no illusion.

Very well done. All aligned and really clean. Good job.

@Steve,

Thanks so much for the compliment, it is appreciated. I tell ya when your working on it and putting the plugs in you have to step away for a bit or it makes your eyes go weird…..

@BritBoxmaker, Thank you for the compliment. One of my goals with this board was to make the bulge really stand out.
