I made nine black walnut candle holders as Christmas gifts. As a turning newbie, this was a fun project for me. It’s not easy to see in the photos, but I dished out the bases a little bit – the first time I have done anything like that.
I made two different styles of holder. The more ornate one is based on a candle holder that we have which was made by my wife’s grandfather. These will be given to some members of my wife’s family.
I based the other design on some photos of bud vases that I looked at online.
I finished the holders with Danish oil.
The scrap from roughing out the bases on the bandsaw left me with this wooden chain before it found its way into the stove as kindling.
