A Tale of Two Tables

I made these two craftsman coffee tables for my wife for Christmas. Design is from Woodsmith magazine #112 (available from Shopnotes online). Initially I was going to make just one in QSWO, then decided I might as well make two since I’d already have the machines set up (measure twice, cut twice!). The second table is walnut. Finished both with Watco danish oil, natural tint. Many thanks to Lumberjocks posters, from whom I learn helpful things every day. Being able to search the site for techniques, projects, blogs, and tips helped a lot with this project. This was my first “furniture” build, did a lot of “firsts”: morties & tenon instead of pocket holes, card scraper instead of sandpaper, etc. Got it done just in time (1:30 am Christmas morning!) Thanks for looking.

Ah, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times…. (hope you get the reference)

Very nice build on both tables. hard to beat the look of quartersawn lumber, and its hard to beat the grain of walnut. The glass really makes the design look professional, too.

great build & MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You did a really nice job on these and I’m sure that she was pleased with them.
