Spalted Bulb

Project by trifern posted 316 days ago 382 views 2 times favorited 23 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is a little bulbous bowl turned from spalted maple. I have been practicing using my hollowing tool. I decided to practice with a more open top. That way I can see what I am doing and then listen and feel whats going on so I can then duplicate it when turning blind with a smaller diameter opening. It is finished with Seal-A-Cell, wipe-on poly and Briwax.

I swear, Joe. You get the prettiest blanks, and then you make ‘em sing!

I really like the shape of that bowl, Joe, nice work…the colors reminds me of the spalted pecan I have stacked everywhere, I had a lathe on my xmas list for years, but I have not got it yet :( Was going to get a mini-lathe to learn on, but decided to just wait and get a mid-size. If you don’t mind me asking can you reccommend a good lathe to start on in a message? Seeing your work and other LJ’s has me chomping at the bit now for a lathe… :)

Thanx and Be Well…

Joe – Honestly, you and I must get together on a project. You make fabulous turnings, and get better on everyone. Great job again.

That looks great, but I gotta ask again: where do you find the time? I gotta hit the lottery so I can spend more time in the shop.

Joe this one is one of your best. Nice shape and the lift from the foot sets it off very nicely. Hope you bring it to the next meeting.
