Apartment Herb Planter

This is a Christmas gift for my sister. She’s been wanting an herb garden, but lives in a second floor apartment. This holds three 30” window box trays. The middle of the bottoms have a slot for drainage to keep it off the wood, and simply drain into the box beneath it. The shape is pretty basic, so I attached each rail with a large dovetail, and added walnut pegs for a little bit of visual contrast. Main body is made with Beech. Finish is currently just Danish oil. I just finished this yesterday, so it’ll have to cure a bit before applying a harder finish. Will Lacquer work, or should I go with a poly or spar varnish?

Thanks for looking, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

David

Hi,

Great idea you have here.
I love the large dovetail combinded with the walnut pegs.
Looks really cool and professional.

I have an old blanket chest which also has a large dovetail, i love it!

Kind regards,
Richard (Netherlands)
