This is a card box for an upcoming wedding. I’m not terribly happy with the quality, but I’m glad I got it done in time.
Walnut and cherry. BLO & a few coats of Amber shellac with a final wax.
The biggest challenge and frustration with this project was milling the wood with my jack plane. It came plenty warped, and it was my first time trying to correct this degree of warping with my limited skills. The result of alI this were some pretty gappy joinery. I also realized that the dining table isn’t cutting it anymore as a workbench, and I rather have a more flat reference surface for planing and preferably a bit farther away from where we eat. I’m thinking a planing beam is in my future, now if I can only find some space…
