Sapele Mancala Board

This a playing board for Mancala.

The cups were routed freehand with a box core bit. The legs are sapele turned on the lathe. Finish is boiled linseed oil. I sprayed the inside of the cups with black spray paint to try and give it an aged/patina look (and to hide the burn marks!). The playing pieces are decorative rocks purchased from the craft store.

I whipped this out in about 3 hours total time. I do like the irregular shapes of the cups but I think in the next one, I will make a template to get some straight lines and consistent shapes. I also would like to try hand carving one out of a piece of log for that truly primitive/tribal sort of look.

Thanks for looking!

Love mancala. I kind of like the irregular cups.

Where have I been?
Never heard of this game.
I do like your previous board better with the “rough” look.
Thanks for posting the rules….......................

Gorgeous mancala! My wife loves it, it brings back great memories. Like the cool uneven cups and the legs. Great job!
