This Christmas, I’ve been commissioned to make several signs. It’s been a busy few weeks, and most of the signs were pretty standard – some 3D cuts, but mostly words or scripture. This was from a young man who wanted to surprise his father with a sign to put in his ManCave Bar. I posted it because I stumbled upon a great stain/sanding routine for the Photocarve designs. Using an ebony stain for the picture, I let it sit for 48 hours to make certain it was completely dry before sanding with my orbital sander and an 80-180-220 grit cycle. After finishing with the ebony, I finished it off with a Varathane Early American finish coat. The wood is Cherry (which is my favorite wood to carve).
I think my patience paid off and the customer was completely stoked. Thanks for looking.
