It’s made from MDF and weighs a ton! Especially the headboard. I’m now in the process of building a castle bed for my older daughter and that too is from MDF but won’t be nearly as heafty as this was. The nice thing about MDF for this project (my first big project) was low cost. I could suffer a miscut or two without ruining perfectly good and expensive hardwood. Next sleigh bed project will be for me and my wife and that’s going to be made from “real wood”.

I really lke the design of the bed.
I am not sure though how long the MDF is going to hold up to a little girl jumping up and down on her bed. Can’t really see how the sides are attached to both ends, but you may find yourself replacing the sides with real wood sooner than you wanted.

Great looking bed and tho it may not be perfect in your assetment, in your daughters eyes she is the queen with her very own sleigh. She will remember it forever.

thx for the comments folks.
with respect to how the sides are attached to the headboard/footboard it’s just with screws – however, the part that the mattress is on is basically like a big box (think matesbed) with the headboard and footboard attached to the ends of the box. She should be able to jump on that thing all day long without and stress on the connection points to the headboard and footboard. That said, who knows – I might indeed be fixing/replacing one day. Cheers
