A few weeks ago I had to cut an access panel (aka big hole) in my sons bedroom wall to access some leaky shower pipes. His room has faux wood paneling on the walls which made covering his hole a bit of a conundrum. But with a Kreg Jig and some scrap wood I was able to come up with a decent looking solution. Shelf is 2 5/8” deep to accommodate the pipe behind it.

The hole wasn’t near any studs so I had to place some small blocks of wood behind the wall. The shelf and molding are one piece and the molding covers the screws I had to use to attach the scrap 2×4s. The shelf is held in place with screws tagged into the the side of the shelf and covered over with those plastic screw covers you find in flat pack furniture (purchased at home depot)

A bit more useful than a access panel cover!

Very Resourceful

Great idea. It’s so much nicer than an access door. Great job.
