these are some toys we were planing to give away for Christmas, sadly i got a terrible flu and cough and was not able to source the materials , now we only have 7 day to Xmas, as i am still in the house, and the doctor told me i can not go to the shop because the sawdust its eating my lungs(his own words) so problably that will not possible. but we will see if i get better and get some elves to help me and see if we can do something. if not i will plan ahead for next year.

funny thing, the plane and buggy it is made from USA spruce, it was brought from a big company that uses it on furniture. the train is as usual mahogany.

the problem was that i went to the shop to work when this thing started on me, and i dont wear a mask!, the doctors(have seen 3 so far) were practically screaming at me for not using protection. i think i have to start to using those masks that i have there.
thanks again

Those are really cute!!!! How did you make the little people? Lathe? What do you use for finishes?
We had our Christmas party for our woodturning club. Now SWMBO is after me to make things with all the wood I have stacked up and lying around the shop.
Sorry to hear about your illness. Have you been tested for allergies or do the Dr.’s think it is just from the sawdust itself, causing irritation? I have asthma and sometimes have to take a prednisone packet for the irritation. Hope you are better so you can enjoy the holidays.

yes i used the lathe to do the little people, i wish i could buy them but the shipping here is too expensive. you all of them are different!

the body of all the toys is 1 in spruce, for the train as well but mahogany, i put a little acrylic paint for the head and shoulders. i attach the little people two way, the ones that have a recessed ring on the bottom i drill a 1/8 hole to the side of car/plane body close enough to that inner ring, then i put a kebab chopstick that fits nicely there, and glue it, that keep the piece there but its able to move sideways. for the train i put the person before gluing the cabin, i drill a hole bigger than 1/8 at the bottom of the cabin and then screw that piece, as the hole is bigger than the screw, it moves but it will not be able to be removed once the cabin is glued.
the finishing is lineseed oil, a couple of coats and thats it.

i dunno if i make sense but more likely is the way i did them.

im getting better tough, and i have like a whole pharmacy counter here with all those medicines i had to buy.

and yes, the doctors said its the sawdust, i got an chest RX and some other tests and that was the diagnostic of two doctors, allergies so far have none that i know of.

and thanks again for all the good wishes from you all!

Thanks Crowie
we dont use dust collectors around here(pricey, they dont sell them,) and most of the shops are just a shed with open walls, but i DO know that i have to use a dust mask if i want to keep making those toys.
all the best!
