The panels for this project are all tiger maple with a bubinga frame and bubinga handles. I wanted to build this with as thin a frame as possible and it was very tricky designing and then building the joinery for this. I ended up spending a few weeks in sketch-up before starting to build it.

The finish is a layer of shellac dyed with transtint vintage maple, sanded down and then a few coats of tung oil finish.

It looks great in our entryway but I did make one serious miscalculation: the shoe cabinet is full 3/4 maple and thus turned out to be pretty heavy. I think I’m going to have to remake the handle on the front as my wife is having problems opening it without it slamming shut.

That’s a gorgeous cabinet. I think I might try making something similar!

Very cool. Like the wood contrast, now I need to build something similar to house my wifes 5000000 pairs of shoes
