I learned to make this Nantucket style fan back windsor chair at Mike Dunbar’s school. It is a large chair best described as a 1780 version of a recliner. I have made a few of these but wanted to make one for my son. At the time he was a teenager and I knew that one day he would appeciate and enjoy it. He chose the paint colors. It has several coats of milk paint, Salem Red followed by Tavern Green and then Slate on top. A couple of coats of hand rubbed Danish Oil finish it off. I bought the turnings from Mike Dunbar. The spindles and crest are from a red oak log I split into the required size and bent as needed. The seat is large piece of poplar. It was my 9th chair and I finished it in Sept. 2005.

A very nice, & well crafted chair.
I’ve made a couple of them myself, & they’re a challenging, & fun project.
