Jesus was the the chief of the Cocoa Project for a agricultural research institution here in Honduras, he was Colombian but had lived here for many years. He was in charge of finding and propagating the best varieties of cocoa plants and other plants that could be planted along side them.(Mahogany, rosewood etc)

We knew him as we usually sell our stuff on his company meetings and fairs, he actually was the one who pushed his bosses to give us a lot of mahogany wood on a loan( we are a small family business) and always thought on ways to help our little company.

He was diagnosed with spleen cancer about a year ago, and he fought it, chemo, radiotherapy and all that, sadly, he lost his battle to it and died a couple of weeks ago.

the company asked us to made some letter to put on a sign, as they were renaming one of their training and demonstration center to his name. we say of course, they only asked for the letters but we wanted to make something more special, so we decided to incorporate one of his pics into the sign without telling them.

the ceremony just finished and they told me they loved it, his wife was in charge of the revealing and when she saw it she cried, saying that that was a beautiful detail.

the sign measures 30 in x 70 in, the base is cedar and the letters and face mahogany, the letter were stained to make them contrast a little more.

To Jesus: Vaya con Dios! (Godspeed)

I am sure he is happy with the master carpenter, and is watching over us. A very wonderful and special
sign to help us remember him. Thank you for sharing.

Yup, he is probably looking for some plants there to do some testing!

Wonderful sign and a great tribute to a great person. Great work on the beautiful letters, portrait and finish.

Have your say...
