My little son had his 4 birthday and we want to renovate his room. We asked him what for a bed he want, he answered ” Such a stacked bed, were i can slee up, with stairs and i will a lot of STAR WARS in my room!!!” Now it was to me to build such a bed for him. I know he loves the X-Wing fighter, so i thought i would be nice to build one at the side of the bed. The stairs have drawers inside for toy storage and the posts look a littel like AT-AT feets. My wife thought i cut out a flat spaceship from plywood and just paint it, but when she realized that i build it three dimentional with wings and everything, she just shaked her head and said ” Big boys and their dreams”. The X-Wing fighter is build completle from scratch, the body is MDF and the two turbines are different size plastic tubes. For the detailing of the engine-bay and the turbines i just use everythig i had laying around ,like old plugs, plasic screws, wire, gears, dowels, light fitting, perforated sheet and a saucepan lid handle. The lines are engraved with a scratch awl. I have made a few photos before i painted it so that you can se what material i used. To finish the room I painted stars and planets on the wall and build a lot of paper starships, which are now hang from the ceiling.

Why is it that I see a cool idea like this after I could have used it? My (now 40 yr old) son would have given his eye-teeth to have a bed like that and I could have gotten the accolades!

Seriously, that bed is too cool for words!

This lifelong Star Wars fan just got his heart racing looking at that. I never do this, but please pardon the caps lock.

THAT IS ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS I’VE EVER SEEN.

This project is certainly worthy of a “Father of the year” nomination from your son. You may want to hang a nomination form off the X-Wing
